ASU soccer teams shuts out East Central 3-0

Brittany Tollison notched the first goal of the match midway through the first half, and Brandie DeBacker added two second-half goals as the Angelo State soccer team (9-4-1, 3-1 LSC) shut out East Central (4-7-2, 0-4-1 LSC) 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Ada, Okla.

Tollison's goal, her third of the season, came in the 22nd minute and was courtesy of a goalie deflection off a shot by Kristen Boister. DeBacker's goals, which pulled her into a tie for the team lead with Jennifer Bukowski with five goals in 2008, came in the 75th and 79th minute. Skylar Searles assisted on DeBacker's first goal with a crossing pass from the left side, while Boister registered the assist with a through ball from 15 yards out on DeBacker's second.

Melanie Peterson got the start in goal for the Rambelles and stopped all five shots on goal she faced, improving her record to 4-1 on the year and recording her second shutout of the season. ASU outshot the Tigers 16-14 for the match but had a decisive 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. ECU used two goalkeepers in the match with Christie Sarginson being tagged with the loss as she started the match and saw her record fall to 2-2 on the season while Kelly Davis replaced Sarginson to start the second half and surrendered both of DeBacker's goals.

The Rambelles are off until next weekend, when they have two LSC matches. ASU will host Southwestern Oklahoma at 4 p.m. Friday in the first match of the weekend at the ASU Soccer Field as part of this week's homecoming festivities.
